2016 Harrison Hill – “Physique” Physique According to the National Physique Committee, Physique deals with “proper shape and symmetry combined with muscularity and overall condition.” Physique competitors are different from Bodybuilders, and every competitor participates for various reasons. For Jared Coffell, he competed to stay in shape, as well as be a role model for the many individuals in his life chasing there own fitness goals. Coffell started preparing for his third physique competition 8 weeks prior to the annual NPC Kentucky Derby Festival Championships in Louisville, Ky. This preparation included cutting weight, counting calories, and more. Coffell worked out six days a week during his preparation for the annual NPC Kentucky Derby Festival Championships in Louisville, Ky. “training took up a majority of my time,” said Coffell. Coffell practices posing with his posing coach Sasha Teems. “You’re not going to find a harder working young man,” said Teems Coffell relaxes with his girlfriend, Brendan Bird, after a long day of school and training. “With training and schoolwork, I haven’t had as much time to hang out with Brendan,” said Coffell. Coffell gets his eyebrows waxed at NTouch hair salon in Elizabethtown. “Not only do you have to look good body-wise for the physique competition, you also have to have a well groomed haircut and face,” said Coffell. Coffell weighed himself every morning when he woke up for the day to track his progress and make sure he was losing weight each week in order to lose fat and improve body composition. To prepare for his competition, Coffell counted his calories every day to make sure he is on track to cut as much weight as possible. This meant he could not always eat the same meals as his family. Coffell looks at himself one final time before heading backstage at the NPC Kentucky Derby Festival Championships at the convention center in Louisville, Ky. Coffell pumps up backstage before he goes out for the mens physique class A competition. Coffell also competed in the collegiate and teen physique classes as well. On April 25, 2015 during the annual NPC Kentucky Derby Festival Championships, Coffell won first place in the mens class A, collegiate class A, and teen division, along with earning a national qualification for men’s physique. “My goal was to win first place in all three classes, but I didn’t think that I had a chance to win the mens class,” said Coffell. “When I won I was so pumped.”
