The National Press Photographers Foundation has provided 565 scholarships and awards for students and professionals in support of furthering their education. Please consider supporting the NPPF through your charitable and tax deductible contributions. The NPPF is the foundation for photojournalism.
Michel du Cille Fellow
Photojournalist Michel duCille drew praise from colleagues around the globe for his deep moral compass and sense of social justice. His three Pulitzer Prizes are a fitting tribute to the stunning quality of his work. The recipient is selected to pursue visual work for the betterment of humankind in the spirit of du Cille.

Rich Clarkson Founders Scholarship
For 25 years, Rich Clarkson was the director of photography at The Topeka Capital-Journal. He also led the photo and art department at The Denver Post as Assistant Managing Editor/Graphics and was The National Geographic Magazine's Director of Photography in the 1980s. Clarkson is one of four Founders of the National Press Photographers Foundation that was established in 1975. He is also a National Press Photographers Association past president.

Established in 2018 by C. Thomas Hardin and Mary C. Hardin. C. Thomas Hardin is the president of the NPPF and a past-president of the National Press Photographers Association. As NPPA president in the 1980s, he fostered an annual NPPA-Nikon Documentary Sabbatical Grant. For almost 15 years, that grant focused on the Changing Face of America, documenting serious issues of the day. This scholarship rewards students doing documentary photojournalism.

Joseph Ehrenreich Scholarship
The NPPF disburses the Ehrenreich Scholarship funds, which were endowed by the late Amelia Ehrenreich in memory of her husband, Joseph, founder and president of Ehrenreich Photo-Optical Industries. A native New Yorker, Joseph Ehrenreich founded Penn Camera in 1933 and it became one of the largest camera stores in the city. In 1953, he founded EPOI. The firm was best known as the authorized U.S. importer of Nikon equipment for nearly 20 years.

Col. William Lookadoo CPOYi Award
Funds for the award are donated by the life members of the National Press Photographers Association, known as the NPPF Booster Club. The award is made in memory of Col. William J. Lookadoo, a public information officer in the U.S. Air Force and and NPPA member. His vision and organizational abilities helped create the NPPA Flying Short Course, which has benefited thousands of photojournalists since its inception.

Milton Freier Memorial CPOYi Award
The award is made in the memory of Milton Freier, a United Press International photographer who covered the White House for fourteen years. He then became technical representative for Ernst Leitz, Inc., manufacturer of the Leica camera. Freier promoted 35mm photography and was instrumental in introducing small format photography to the press photographer. He was known as a gentleman blessed with modesty, good manners, loyalty and hard work. He was killed in an automobile accident in 1967.
Qualifying status: Awarded to the runner up College Photographer of the Year.

Paul Threlfall TV Professional Education Scholarship
Paul Threlfall began his journalism career as a staff photographer for The Wichita Beason, resigning as chief photographer in 1954 to join KAKE-TV, Wichita, as director of film production and then vice president and news manager. Elected NPPAs second president (1948-50). Threlfell, a recipient of the Sprague Award, died in May 2001.

As Multimedia Director at the Palm Beach Post, Mark and his staff earned hundreds of awards in the Best of Photojournalism, Pictures of the Year International, Society for News Design and Best Use of Photography contests. True to form, Mark always felt it was his good fortune and opportunity to work closely with -- both learn from and guide -- nine regional photographers of the year and derived as much knowledge and inspiration as any of the students during the numerous workshops and seminars during his career.
