Just a Normal Mother Allison cooks spaghetti as Jason calmly cajoles a grumpy Nixon to try to get him to eat. As a result of a serious illness he had last year, Nixon often refuses to eat, afraid the food will make him sick. Macy, Marlowe, and Keightley, watch as their mother makes muffins one morning before school. The older children are responsible for getting themselves dressed and ready for the day. Allison nurses Willa Grey while Nixon and Marlowe show her their matching hats. Macy plays with Nixon in the yard before taking care of the chickens. All Whaley children are expected to help with chores. Keightley and Macy feed the chickens and collect their eggs as part of their daily chores.
