This series is a personal meditation on the 25th anniversary of the bombing of Pan Am 103, which was the first case of airline terrorism in the 20th century, an event that served as a pre-cursor, in many ways, for the events of September 11, 2001, and the modern era of the “War on Terrorism.” I undertook the project while studying in London with Syracuse University as the Alexia Scholar. The Alexia Foundation was created in memory of Alexia Tsaris, a Syracuse University student who was killed in the bombing. One remaining tree in a wooded area that has been cleared since the bombing. The trees that once stood here were draped with passengers’ personal affects after the bombing.
