Carolyne Corelis

Carolyne is a full-time Video Journalist at KPBS, San Diego’s NPR/PBS affiliate. Prior to KPBS, Carolyne worked at her local public access news station KOCT in Oceanside, California. She pivoted to video storytelling during the pandemic, previously she working as a freelance photographer and full-time bartender, working toward her goal to be a photojournalist by working on personal projects in her free time. 

Carolyne has held a wide variety of odd jobs throughout the years and those experiences inform her reporting and the stories she tells. Born and raised in San Diego county, she spent her college years in the city of San Francisco, attended San Francisco State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Art. After college she backpacked through Mexico, took up rockclimbing, rode the rails for months in Southern Europe, after it all returning to her hometown of Oceanside. It was a professor of Journalism 101 community college class who took a chance and helped her land her first internship in the San Diego Union-Tribune photo department. After that, she was hooked.  

Carolyne  has received several awards for her work and her work has appeared in national outlets. In her reporting she seeks to highlight voices that are often overlooked, drawing on her own knowledge and lived experiences in North County San Diego, an area that is a distinctly different region from the city of San Diego.
