 Are students eligible to apply?

The grants/ fellowships are open only to photojournalists and photojournalism students, whereapplicable, who are legally residing in Puerto Rico, United States, United States Minor Outlying Islands. A completed IRS Form W-9 will be required upon acceptance of the award.

Can I apply for more than one NPPF grant/fellowship?

You are welcome to apply with the same or different projects to all NPPF grants/fellowships, however, only one (1) entry is permitted per grant or fellowship. You are only eligible to receive one (1) NPPF grant/fellowship per funding cycle.

I have already started working on my project. Is that, ok?

Yes, projects can be new or ongoing work. The money is intended to support creating a substantial body of work. The grants/fellowship are not to fund projects that are already completed.

Can collaborators apply?

Yes. We will accept applications from multiple creative collaborators if all the collaborators meet the entry guidelines. If you are applying with a collaborator, they will also need to submit a bio and references. Contact grants@nppf.org if you have questions.

There is an outlet interested in publishing my project when it is finished, am I eligible to apply?

Absolutely, the goal of the funding projects is to have it published. Let us know in your proposal if you have an agreement for project publication secured already.

I have received over five thousand dollars ($5000) total, in funding from other grants or fellowships in the three (3) years prior to the application deadline, am I still eligible to apply?

No, if you have already received substantial funding in the last three years from grants or fellowships, you are not eligible to apply. If you have questions regarding your eligibility, please get in touch with the grants NPPF coordinator at grants@nppf.org

Can I include a video in my project?

Yes, still, video and multimedia projects may be submitted for consideration.

What is expected of the recipient?

Upon conclusion of the project, recipient will submit to NPPF a minimum of twenty-five (25) high-resolution images with comprehensive captions from the project. If the project results in a video, a high-resolution copy must be submitted. In addition, a written document outlining work on the grant is required within twelve to eighteen (12-18) months of receiving the grant.

Who retains the copyright for the images/video footage?

The recipient retains the ownership and copyright of all images and the final product. Any monies generated by this project shall be retained by the recipient.

Can I make changes to my entry?

Yes, you may make changes to your entry till the deadline.

Can I apply for more than one grant/fellowship?

You are welcome to apply with the same or different projects to all NPPF grants/fellowships, however, you can only receive 1 (one) NPPF grant/fellowship per funding cycle.

When submitting a proposal, you will be given the option to automatically have it entered into any remaining grants for the funding cycle if you are not selected as the recipient. You will be notified via email and given at least one week to make any changes to your entry before judging the next grant.

Yes, projects can be new or ongoing work. The money is intended to support creating a body of work. The grants are not intended to be used to fund projects that are already completed nor to fund exhibitions and publications.

I have already received over $5000 (five thousand) in funding from grants or fellowships for this project. Can I still enter the proposal?

No, projects that have already received substantial funding are not eligible unless it is a different story. If you have questions regarding a project’s eligibility, please get in touch with the grants NPPF coordinator at grants@nppf.org.

Can I include a video in my project?

Both still and video projects may be submitted for consideration.

What is expected of the recipient?

Recipients shall agree to reasonable requests by NPPF to present their work and/or represent NPPF at photography workshops, seminars, and/or conventions, provided that any necessary expense associated with such presentations is paid by NPPF or mutually agreed-upon sponsor.

Can I make changes to my application?

Personal Information, application and portfolio may be edited up until the deadline.
