I am a multimedia journalist for Cronkite News on Arizona PBS as well as a content producer for KPHO and KTVK in Phoenix. My duties for Cronkite News include writing, editing, shooting and reporting news packages for the daily newscast. These packages consist of both day-turns and enterprise stories. I also create digital videos and articles for KPHO and KTVK. After completing an internship with the station, I was hired on to produce digital content. My footage for the station is often used in the newscast for packages and VO/SOTS. In the past, I worked as a video journalist for The Santa Clarita Signal, a multimedia journalist with Cougar News at College of the Canyons, a digital intern for Hawaii News Now and a breaking news intern for The Arizona Republic.

KPHO/KTVK and ASU’s Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication
I’m currently in my last semester of college at Arizona State University’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and I’m very excited to come to the NPPA News Video Workshop for the second time. One of my current short term goals is to find a starter station that has an environment where I’ll be able to grow as a multimedia journalist. I love all aspects of being an MMJ. From the shooting, the editing and the writing, to the challenges that come with doing it all yourself. I was considering being a photojournalist because of my passion for shooting, but I knew I would miss writing too much. My long term goal is to become a developed multimedia journalist at a station that cares about innovation, pursuing new ways to tell stories and improving their team.
Cronkite is a great school, but I believe that I learned more at last year’s News Video Workshop than I did during my college education. The workshop taught me so many things that I could have never learned in the classroom. I went as a participant in 2018, and this scholarship would allow me to come to the workshop as a Shoot ‘n Edit and take the next step to become a better multimedia journalist. I managed to afford last year’s workshop because of a scholarship from the James Allen Cox Foundation for Student Photojournalists. A scholarship would allow me to further my goal of becoming a stronger storyteller.
This opportunity would also allow me to help my fellow students. Cronkite doesn’t have an NPPA go-to mentor. Even though I have a lot to learn, I’m often the person people go to in the newsroom when they have a question about editing, shooting and finding ways to incorporate natural sound in their packages. I’m currently the Vice President of the NPPA student club at ASU. This scholarship would help me continue to spread the values and practices that I believe have truly helped me become the best student journalist that I can be. I believe in not only striving to become a better reporter, shooter, writer, editor and team member, but becoming a better storyteller. This scholarship would help put me on track to do just that.
