I’m about a year in to my career as a reporter/anchor, and I recently have been feeling like I’ve gotten a little complacent. I think my work has plateaued a bit – it’s fine for the market I’m in, but I’m not growing much. I’ve lost some of my drive to work the hardest and tell the best stories. I had been thinking I needed some kind of boost to reignite the journalism fire, and I came across a promo video for the NPPA News Video Workshop, starring my old college co-anchor! I looked into the conference more and it sounds incredible. I believe if I want to take the next step in my career and start really preparing to make a jump to a bigger market in the future, I need to attend something like this and hear from amazing storytellers – storytellers I want to be like. Unfortunately, this industry also generally doesn’t pay super well, and as I live paycheck to paycheck (with outstanding student loans), the cost of this conference sounds completely overwhelming, which is why I’m applying for this scholarship.
