Akash Ghai, from Pennsylvania State University, is the winner of the Jimi Lott Scholarship.
Among Ghai’s academic and professional accomplishments are:
  • First place for Feature Photo in the 2015 Student Keystone Press Awards organized by Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association
  • Selected to the Student Newsroom at Online News Association’s annual conference supported by Google in September, 2014
  • Top 20 in Multimedia News Category of the Hearst Journalism Awards (2014-2015)
  • Arts and Humanities Award for ‘Leaving Home Project’ in the 2014 Undergraduate Research Exhibition at Penn State

Ghai wrote about his career goals, “I’m currently lined up for an internship with a wire service in California and will be interning in Washington D.C for my fall semester after which I hope to be able to get some experience in multimedia journalism. Ideally, I want to be a foreign multimedia correspondent and hope to work towards training for that proposition after graduation. I’m currently enrolled in an international reporting class and will be spending time reporting from Hong Kong and China. Depending on my ability to execute from a foreign country I will decide whether to pursue foreign correspondence and look for relevant opportunities. However, I definitely want to enroll for a graduate program at some point in my career to further develop my multimedia skills for journalism and commercial work. I’m really interested in doing work within the music industry as well; I had a pleasant experience creating images for an upcoming Warner Music artist.”
