Bob Baxter Scholarship
Named for a New Jersey photographer who was paralyzed in a swimming accident but continued to pursue photojournalism education. Baxter set up this scholarship before his death.

Rich Clarkson Founders Scholarship
For 25 years, Rich Clarkson was the director of photography at The Topeka Capital-Journal. He also led the photo and art department at The Denver Post as Assistant Managing Editor/Graphics and was The National Geographic Magazine's Director of Photography in the 1980s. Clarkson is one of four Founders of the National Press Photographers Foundation that was established in 1975. He is also a National Press Photographers Association past president.

Bob East Scholarship

Joseph Ehrenreich Scholarship
The NPPF disburses the Ehrenreich Scholarship funds, which were endowed by the late Amelia Ehrenreich in memory of her husband, Joseph, founder and president of Ehrenreich Photo-Optical Industries. A native New Yorker, Joseph Ehrenreich founded Penn Camera in 1933 and it became one of the largest camera stores in the city. In 1953, he founded EPOI. The firm was best known as the authorized U.S. importer of Nikon equipment for nearly 20 years.
Qualifying status: Recipients are selected by demonstrated potential in photojournalism either as photographers or picture editors.

Milton Freier Memorial CPOYi Award
The award is made in the memory of Milton Freier, a United Press International photographer who covered the White House for fourteen years. He then became technical representative for Ernst Leitz, Inc., manufacturer of the Leica camera. Freier promoted 35mm photography and was instrumental in introducing small format photography to the press photographer. He was known as a gentleman blessed with modesty, good manners, loyalty and hard work. He was killed in an automobile accident in 1967.

Jimi Lott Scholarship
Jimi Lott, a Seattle Times photographer for over 20 years, was known for his keen eye, his compassion, and boundless energy. His work focused on the less fortunate in the community including the homeless and the mentally ill. He died in 2005 at age 52.

Paul Threlfall TV Professional Education Scholarship
Paul Threlfall began his journalism career as a staff photographer for The Wichita Beason, resigning as chief photographer in 1954 to join KAKE-TV, Wichita, as director of film production and then vice president and news manager. Elected NPPAs second president (1948-50). Threlfell, a recipient of the Sprague Award, died in May 2001.
Qualifying status: Workshp faculty decide the award based on need and progress at the workshop.

NPPA Sprgue Award winner G. Gordon Yoder was a combat correspondent-photographer in Korea, a net work photojournalist covering news including the Civil Rights Movement in 1950's - 1960's. He designed and manufactured the innovative 16mm Yoder Sound Camera - the standard for TV stations and networks.
